The material used to craft this nativity is Balata, a natural latex rubber tapped from the "bulletwood" tree by the Macushi people of the Kanku Mountains of Guyana. God has assumed human nature. He likewise assumed cultural difference, and thus becomes visible in what is most precious to the Macushi.
